Professional Work Experience

Researcher

University of California, Berkeley, Bouchard & Deweese Labs - Berkeley, CA | Nov 2022 – Present

Introduced NeuroSA, a neuromorphic architecture for optimization problems in QUBO and Ising models. Created metrics for assessing I/O complexity in biological neurons, with potential applications in neuromorphic engineering. Mentored two undergraduate researchers in data science methodologies and scientific communication.

Researcher

Stanford University, Currie Lab - Stanford, CA | May 2022 – Present

Developed the Expected Opportunities System (EOS) for fair organ allocation, addressing ethical challenges in transplantation. Conducted comparative studies of existing systems, proposing improvements for equitable organ distribution. Investigated donor-recipient sex mismatching effects, leading to policy recommendations for improved patient outcomes.

Consultant

Deloitte Consulting LLP - Rosslyn, VA | Sep 2018 – Jun 2021

Led a team of five to perform data analysis for IRS change management across ten critical work streams. Designed and implemented a Neo4j-based graph representation of DHS data to evaluate national infrastructure risk. Developed a machine learning pipeline for the Ohio Department of Health to analyze and predict trends in the opioid epidemic. Applied natural language processing techniques to identify market opportunities for a close-hold search platform.

Research Experience

Visiting Research Fellow

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Perlmutter Group - Berkeley, CA | Jun 2018 – Sep 2018

- Developed models for testing modified gravity theories using peculiar velocities of type Ia supernovae. - Implemented MCMC algorithms on NERSC’s Cori supercomputer for galaxy data analysis. - Contributed to understanding the growth rate factor of large-scale structure using statistical techniques.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow (SURF)

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory - Pasadena, CA | Jun 2017 – Aug 2017

- Modeled stress mechanisms on icy satellites and implemented enhancements to SatStressGUI. - Conducted simulations to compare Europa’s surface structures with observational data.

Teaching Experience

Graduate Student Instructor

University of California, Berkeley | Aug 2021 – Dec 2021

- Created course materials emphasizing scientific decision-making and critical thinking. - Led interactive sessions that integrated physics with philosophical and social science perspectives. - Developed assessments, quizzes, and projects to enhance student learning.

Math Instructor

Mount Tamalpais College, San Quentin State Prison | Aug 2022 – Present

- Taught foundational to intermediate mathematics, improving student pass rates to over 90%. - Redesign curriculum to incorporate active learning and a flipped classroom model. - Contributed to Mount Tamalpais College’s mission of providing rigorous education to incarcerated students.

Teaching Assistant

Grinnell College | Aug 2016 – May 2018

- Assisted in lab and lecture courses, providing guidance on complex physics problems. - Designed supplemental materials and practice exams to aid in student understanding.
